You only have to go to village of Ortigueira (northeast of A Coruña province), famous for its celtic music festival. Take to the harbor, in the middle of the "ría" (estuary); it´s the best place around for seeing them.
- For Branta bernicla it´s better if low tide.
- Gavia is common there. Maybe better with high tide, when Gavia are a bit closer to harbor.

And... one question, Mick. Aren´t you european, don´t you? (these are very common species in West Europe and I find a bit strange you are so interested in it)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00398684974915158611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-169197829150559717.post-5407520213880635842016-01-01T12:11:31.270+01:002016-01-01T12:11:31.270+01:00Hello again Xabier.

The Colimbos grandes (Gavia immer)and Barnaclas carinegras (Branta bernicla)that you saw yesterday are also species I will go and have a look for.
Happy New year and good birding, Mick.LojaWldlifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08638103034119682892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-169197829150559717.post-49281025207154703672016-01-01T08:26:21.655+01:002016-01-01T08:26:21.655+01:00You must write scientific names cause I don´t know...You must write scientific names cause I don´t know british names. Imagine Snow bunting is Plectrophenax nivalis. This is not a good year for this species (winter is warm in whole Europe). Better place for watching Snow bunting are "Serra da Capelada" (Capelada Hills), between Cariño and Cedeira, in extreme Northern part of A Coruña province. There is a narrow paved road that climbs highest point: Garita de Herbeira (600 m.), located over a stunning sea clifts. Presence os Snow bunting is common there.
In some beaches, as A Frouxeira, in Valdoviño, was very common years ago but actually presence of walkers with stray dogs disturb a lot all birds, and Snow bunting became quite rare.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00398684974915158611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-169197829150559717.post-78327633509428430502015-12-30T18:33:29.029+01:002015-12-30T18:33:29.029+01:00Hello Xabier, thanks for the offer of showing me s...Hello Xabier, thanks for the offer of showing me some birds but I will be arriving in Santiago on the 7th Jan for 5 nights and then move to Gijon for another 5 nights. I hope to get to the spot where you saw the Greater Scaup as i have never seen that species or the Ring-necked Ducks and the Horned Grebe. One species I would really like to find is Snow Bunting, do you know of a site that I might have a chance of seeing this species. Thanks Mick.LojaWldlifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08638103034119682892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-169197829150559717.post-23615648638345617012015-12-30T08:56:19.357+01:002015-12-30T08:56:19.357+01:00A verdade é que se me puxeron "a güebo" ...A verdade é que se me puxeron "a güebo" as tías (toma frase!)
En foto, e con estes aumentos, ata semella doado, pero no campo é bastante máis complicado...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00398684974915158611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-169197829150559717.post-41322951012919107162015-12-30T08:54:11.833+01:002015-12-30T08:54:11.833+01:00Thanks, Mick, and sorry for the late answer.
