Coming back home. Valdoviño lagoon.

Today, my body came back to Valdoviño lagoon.  Half of me accompannied this empty body (the other "part" is still flying between Catalonia and Galiza.... and I think never will land).

Water level has came in a lot after last time. Yet, there is shore enough for waders feed during migration pass. It´s a pity lagoon channel doesn´t remained opened a few weeks later...

Waders feeding on banks at northwest shore of lagoon

At this rainy morning, I could count with my binoculars:

- 10 Common Ringed Plovers (Charadrius hiaticula)
- 5 Grey Plovers (Pluvialis squatarola)
- 16 Sanderlings (Calidris alba)
- 1 Little Stint (Calidris minuta)
- 1 Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea). It seems to be lame. Maybe it´s one of we saw before.
- 70 Dunlins (Calidris alpina)
- 2 Red Knots (Calidris canutus)
- 1 Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus)
-16 Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica)

 Waders (Limosa lapponica/ Pluvialis squatarola)

Grey Plovers (Pluvialis squatarola), two ind. at right

Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea)

Gulls already form medium or big groups. Lagoon is a quite calmer place than beach (although turism has descended a lot with summer end).

Typical gulls resting in the lagoon (Larus fuscus/michahellis)

I had been walking on dunes before. And little birds pass is notorious there too! I have no photos, but could watch:
- One Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica), into NW reedbed
- A possible Aquatic Warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola) at same place. This year I´m sure watched it several times here, but couldn´t identified well enough
- A probably Red-throated Pipit (Anthus cervinus)!. After talking with Pablo Gutiérrez, I have no dubts about this identification. I expect this rare pipit will remain in Valdoviño time enough for experts could confirm this record.

Well, migration is here. Go out! and ... good watchings!!
