But weather didn´t help us! A hailstorm covered Neda streets with a white mantle. It was cold and windy.
We went to a cattle farm, located in San Pedro de Leixa. When I was young, spent many, many hours watching and learning about Nature at these fields. So, always is special for me to return there. Also a surprise was waiting for us (well, not an absolut surprise, so Pablo Pita had reported us before about location of these birds):
Resting over the roof of a small building, a Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) and 6 Cattle Egrets (Bubulcus ibis)!!
Both are typical mediterranean birds, although appear with increasing frecuency in these northern lands (usually at winter end). Damián take advantage of each ocasion when I watch a "rarety" for taking a photo. I´m sure after this, he´s saying everybody I´m a "rareties seeker", ha, ha (cabronazo...)
Photo is good for apreciate distance and location of birds. When a old woman came out the house, I asked her If we could enter the country state. Just in time!, cause then Ibis and Egrets left the roof and flied to a meadow near there.
I made a mistake with camera settings, and seems images are a bit moved... or maybe out of focus. But Ibis is really spectacular close up.
A "hen" came to feed at the same meadow (or it seems...):
Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis)
Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus)
Maybe the last 2013 surprises? I expect not. At these dates, many galician birdwatchers are coming to the ría (estuary) of Ferrol. And it´s quite possible another interesting watchings could be discovered soon.
